Knud Rasmussen

Knud Rasmussen was a Danish polar explorer, adventurer and ethnographer, born on 7 June 1879 in Ilulissat, Greenland. He is best known for his many expeditions to the Arctic and Greenland, where he studied the Inuit cultures and collected material for his extensive collection of Inuit art and culture.

He began his career as a surveyor of Greenland and later led several expeditions to the Arctic, including the first cruise from East to West Greenland. He founded the well-known Thule society, which consisted of Inuit cities along the Arctic coast.

Knud Rasmussen was recognized for his unique contributions to the science of the Arctic and Greenland, and his work has been of great importance for the understanding of the Inuit cultures and their way of life. He died on 21 December 1933 in Sønderho, Denmark.

He will always be remembered as one of Denmark's most significant polar explorers and adventurers who dedicated his life to exploring and understanding the Arctic and its people.
